saw this dance performance last year at the salt piles in lower manhattan. entitled MELT, the site-specific piece was more striking on a visual and conceptual level than as a movement performance. something solely about the shiny, waxy skin of the dancers entirely shaped my experience of the evening.

similarly, i’ve recently become attracted to the performance work of vanessa beecroft for the way bodies themselves elicit reaction. 

human body as expression is old news in the art world, but this connection confirms my belief that art is only alive and beautiful and relevant when in relation to something else. “oh, this reminds me of that,” so meaning is transferred and projected and, thusly, created. i suppose we can extrapolate this philosophically to all experiences in life… but that’s another blog entirely.
